My word of the day today is ‘stockade’.
I’m probably never going to re-read it. I like Orwell’s journalism a lot but didn’t really enjoy either 1984 or Animal Farm
I saw something described as ‘1984-style’ (referring to Orwell not Kajagoogoo) and I realized it’s over 40 years since I read the book
I don’t know how much of what I understand as ‘1984-style’ is from actually reading 1984, and how much is from 40 years of people referencing it
I’ve been getting ever so slightly irked by the phrase ‘lived experience’, but I like @caitlinmoran’s ‘lived economics’.
RT @petercmoore: @salisbury_matt Sage and rosemary are a waste of thyme.
Out of parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme, parsley is a waste of space

Just heard this on the radio, from @PatricKielty
“The reason that there’s not more peace in the world is that peace is usually three miles further up the road than you’re prepared to go”
In Catholic theology, Limbo (Latin limbus, edge or boundary, referring to the edge of Hell) is the afterlife condition of those who die in original sin without being assigned to the Hell of the Damned
My word of the day today is ‘chuffed’.
Pleased to learn Lord Hain is Chelsea :)
ChelsTransfer @ChelsTransfer Lord Hain in Parliament: “As a Chelsea fan for 57 years, will the Government ensure that no winning bid loads debt on the club like the Glazers did to Manchester United?” (Associated Press)
White rabbits
I’m #NoToRicketts but I do need to find out how to pronounce Boehly
#TodayILearned that @SalmanRushdie coined the advertising phrases ‘Naughty but nice’ and ‘Adore-abubble’
RT @petercmoore: I used to wear a cygnet ring until the RSPCA prosecuted me.
My word of the day today is ‘grizzled’.
#TodayILearned (or relearned, surely) that ‘f’ takes you to the next occurrence of a character in vim
Unless you’re already on that character in which case it will stay put
So cfc would change everything up to and including the next ‘c’ in the text
My word of the day today is ‘hillock’.
