My word of the day today is ‘merriment’.

I know the whole pandemic thing is bad….but on the upside, I would have been UNBEARABLY SMUG if I’d been in the office today….so it’s worked out better for my co-workers. t.co/zUV3sB9ol…

Lovely to see Google supporting our NHS with one of their doodle things

Would be even better to see them support the NHS by paying a fair amount of tax

“In contrast, Chelsea had N’Golo Kante.

If he could make you feel OK about Chelsea winning the Champions League he could make you feel OK about anything”

Loved this strip from @squires_david ….even the bits that aren’t entirely 100% pro-Chelsea.

My word of the day today is “dappled'.

If Hugh Pym told me the sun wasn’t going to come up tomorrow, I’d both believe him, and feel vaguely reassured

So…what happened in the football?

Win or lose up the blues

I’ve heard/read a couple of Irish people use the word ‘yoke’ over the last couple of weeks, meaning something like ‘thingy’ or ‘wotsit’

Is it a recent usage?

I never heard any of the older Salisbury Irish people ever say it

Cudgelling my brains to focus on work this morning….but failing

Most people who know me might say my demeanor generally varies between laid back and comatose

Today, not do much

#TodayILearned that the word ‘shill’ possibly comes from ‘shillaber’ - circus or carnival sland for “one who acts as a decoy for a gambler, auctioneer, etc.,”

Anyway, probably not connected to the word ‘shilling’

It’s a bit like www.wired.com/2013/03/l…

Extra time at the end of a football match is as if Eliud Kipchoge and Mo Farah finish in a dead heat in the marathon, so they make them race another 8 miles.

Penalties at the end of a football match is as if the 8 miles also finishes in a dead heat, so they get out a chess board

I have strong opinions about people on the radio for no reason whatsoever.

There’s a bloke who’s not been on for a bit, and he’s perfectly likeable, good at his job, probably a lovely person, but he irritated me back in the 1980s and he irritates me still.

I’d forgotten the slightly sick feeling the week before a big final

I would have had it in the past about the FA Cup, too.
